Your first SUP Yoga Class - Everything You Need to Know

Trying SUP Yoga for the first time can feel exciting and maybe a little daunting. Will I fall in? Do I need to be good at yoga already? What should I bring?

This guide covers everything you need to know before stepping onto a paddleboard for your first SUP Yoga class in the Cotswolds.

What is SUP Yoga?

SUP Yoga combines yoga postures with the gentle movement of a paddleboard floating on water. It’s about finding balance, strength and calm in nature.

The wobble is part of the magic, it encourages you to focus, laugh, and let go of expectations.

Who Can Join?

  • All abilities welcome - complete beginners included.

  • Swimming ability - you’ll need to be able to swim 50 metres for safety.

  • Age - under-18s are welcome with an accompanying adult.

SUP Yoga isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence.

What to Expect in a Class

  1. A short paddle to a calm spot on the lake.

  2. Boards anchored so the group floats together.

  3. A sequence of accessible yoga postures, guided step by step.

  4. Time to relax at the end, lying on the board, looking up at the sky.

Falling in? Absolutely fine — and often the moment that brings the biggest smile.

What to Bring

  • Swimwear or quick-dry clothes you’re happy to get wet in

  • A towel and warm layers and drink for afterwards

  • Water bottle

  • An open mind and sense of adventure

Boards, paddles and buoyancy aids are provided.

Weather and Safety

SUP Yoga is weather dependent. Safety is always my top priority, so classes may be rescheduled if strong winds or thunderstorms are forecast.

If that happens, you’ll be offered an alternative date.

  • A chance to de-stress and breathe deeply outdoors
